SAPEN Monthly Webinar - Malnutrition

Malnutrition in the ICU has a high prevalence and is considered a significant burden. Therefore, patients should be assessed for nutritional status on admission. Patients who stay in the ICU for more than 48 hours are at a higher risk of developing malnutrition. Medical nutrition therapy should be started according to the individual needs of each patient to improve nutritional status, support recovery, and promote overall health and well-being. Whenever possible, nutrition should begin through the oral or gastric route using enteral nutrition (EN), and if this is not feasible, parenteral nutrition (PN) should be considered. Monitoring is essential after starting medical nutrition therapy to identify complications early and ensure the treatment is safe and effective.
